Dysgraphia

Picture
What is Dysgraphia?
Dysgraphia is a learning difference that affects writing. It involves challenges with handwriting, spelling, and written expression that are not explained by a child’s intelligence, effort, or instruction. Children with dysgraphia may have difficulty forming letters, organizing their thoughts on paper, or writing efficiently and clearly.

Dysgraphia is related to how the brain coordinates language, fine motor skills, and executive functioning. Many children struggle with planning written work, translating ideas into sentences, or keeping up with the physical demands of writing. These difficulties can vary in severity and often become more noticeable as academic writing demands increase.

Because writing is required across subjects, dysgraphia can impact academic performance and confidence if not well supported. With appropriate accommodations and targeted support, children with dysgraphia can successfully communicate their ideas and demonstrate their knowledge.
